The sport city Riesa is located in the heart of Saxony, right in the center of the city triangle Dresden-Leipzig-Chemnitz. The town on the river Elbe, with 40.000 inhabitants, became well known as a location for the modern industry and especially as many sided event location with a high standard of life quality. The sport city Riesa, formerly known as a gray steel metropolis, represents itself today as a lively, colorful town. Through the organization and implementation of many high-caliber national and international sport events, cultural events and economical presentations Riesa became well known not only in Saxony and Germany, but also in the whole world. Stars like Katarina Witt, Herbert Grönemeyer, Markus Beyer and AC/DC have already been guests in the city. Many different facets of the town touch every visitor in a point and offer therewith a interesting and pleasant frame for a stay in Riesa.

The main attraction in the fields of sport and culture in Riesa is without any doubt the erdgas arena, one of the largest multi purpose halls in the eastern part of Germany. Through it’s high flexibility the hall offers ideal conditions for the organization and implementation of big sport championships. The particularity lies especially in the almost unrestricted possibilities to use. No matter if ice surface, handball court, soccer grass, high clay mounts, concert stages or exhibition stands, explicit requirements can be realized for every event.
Sport enthusiastic people of Riesa have organized themselves in almost 40 associations, to do sports at amateur and professional levels. Four teams, the SC Riesa e.V., Ethos Riesa, Chemie Nünchritz as well as the Beachvolleyball-Club Riesa e.V., are dedicated to the Volleyball sport, which again testifies the big enthusiasm for the sport.
Outstanding conditions for training within the sport complex Riesa, concentrated on a narrowest area, have already convinced many professional athletes. Harald Czudaj, Marc Huster, Jens Kruppa and many more are using the sport complex as their fixed place for practice.

There is much to discover in Riesa. Go for a stroll along one of the longest pedestrian zones in the free state, from the town hall square with the former abbey and the cloister church to the event gastronomy complex “Riesenhügel” and the newest token of the city: the giant oak “Elbquelle”. This monument has been created by Prof. Jörg Immendorf. It is with 25 meters height and 8 meters circumference a masterwork within the iron casting art.
Riesa is ideal as well as a starting point for trips to other historical towns and regions. The bizarre world of mountains in the Saxonian Swiss, the world famous architecture- and art treasures in the free states capital Dresden and the castle of August der Starke in Moritzburg and Pillnitz, the dreamily wine hills of the Saxonian Elbe valley, the porcelain city Meißen as well as the media- and trade fair city Leipzig are located very close to Riesa and promise the visitors always new and fascinating impressions.
